Kaulunani improves the health and viability of trees in Hawaiian communities through educational programs, financial support in the form of cost-share grants, technical training, Arbor Day promotion, and partnerships with the public and private sectors, community groups and not-for-profit organizations.

Since its inception in 1992, Kaulunani has awarded grants totaling over $1.3 million to more than 200 groups throughout the state. These organizations matched this federal fund with more than $4.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions while beautifying and educating their communities.

Hawaii's Urban Forestry State-Wide Assessment and Resource Strategy (SWARS) Survey

The Kaulunani  Council is working as part of the Hawai`i Forestry team on a State-Wide Assessment and Resource Strategy (SWARS), which is an analysis of forest-related conditions, trends, threats, and opportunities within the State, and assures that federal, state, private and community resources focus on important issues.

The Council has identified urban forestry priority issues and is seeking input from the urban forestry community through a short survey.  The results will be used to develop strategies for the Urban Forestry Summit November 4-5, 2009 at the East-West Center in Honolulu.  Click to take the survey.
